Levels Of Play

Little League International defines all players 6, 7 or 8 years old as "minors" Players 9-12 are called "majors" LL allows each league to divide the players into different divisions based on their age guidelines. By LL rules all players younger than league age 7 must use a T when batting. Players 7 and 8 may play either coach pitch or player pitch ball.

Fairfield American Little League has a structured program for the 6-8 yr old players. We split them up by age and by school whenever possible. In 3^rd grade all players are evaluated the first weekend in March and are eligible to be "drafted" into 1 of 3 divisions. AA, AAA or Majors. Draft is based both on age and ability. Below is the current FFALL divisional breakout and summary.

T-Ball League

• Age: 6 year olds
• Format: 90 Minute Practice/Game each week, Games take place Sunday afternoons only May 1 for 8 weeks
• Players Must Use Batting Tee, first half is practice followed by modified game.
• Field: Riverfield

Junior Cappy League

• Age: 7 year olds
• Format: Practice/Games are Saturdays only 9-11a or 11-1p First hour is practice followed by modified game.
• Coach Pitch
• Field: Riverfield

Senior Cappy League

• Age: 8 year olds
• Format: Practice/Games are Saturdays only 9- 11a or 11-1p First hour is practice followed by modified game.
• Coach Pitch
• Field: Gould Manor

Double A (AA) League

• Age: 9 and 10 year olds
• Format: Play 1 game during the week and 1 on the weekends. Practice is in April and on occasion during the season when fields are available. Season runs from late April through the 3^rd weekend in June.
• Kids pitch and catch. Regular 6 inning games. 10 players in the field (pitcher, catcher plus 4 infield and 4 outfield). Ad's umpire.
• Field: Gould Manor / Riverfield

Triple A (AAA) League

• Age: 9-12
• Format: Play 2-3 games per week 6 inning games 10 players in the field (pitcher, catcher plus 4 infield and 4 outfield). Practice in April and Playoffs in June. Weekday games at 5:30p
• Kids pitch and catch.
• Paid Teenage Umpires
• Field: Gould Manor / Mill Hill

Majors

• Age: 10-12
• Format: Majors is the last stop in Little League Player. 50% of the players must be age 12. Majors practice 2-3 x per week in April only. They play 6 inning games with a "Patch" (Adult) umpire behind the plate and a teenage umpire at the bases. Season runs from late April through 3^rd week in June. There is a playoff "Jamboree" at the end of the season. Best 2 teams play best 2 from the National League in the town championship.

Summer Tournament Ball (All-Stars)

Little League runs summer tournaments after local leagues have concluded their season. Fairfield American is in District 2 along with Trumbull, Bridgeport, Monroe, Easton, Stratford and Westport.

District play is for league age 10, 11 and 12 yr. olds. At the 10 and 11 yr. old level teams can advance up to the state championship. The 12 yr. olds can advance to the regional and national level. The national tournament is held in Williamsport PA, and is televised on ESPN.

FFALL has had much success in summer tournament play. Our 10 yr old district team has won 3 out of the last 4 state championships. We have had two 12 yr old district teams win district 2 crowns in the late 90’s.

FFALL will field a 9 year old non-district team and a district team for 10s 11s and 12s. If there is enough interest we will also put together non-district or "travel" teams to play in various travel tournaments around Fairfield County.

The All-Star Commitment is extensive. We require that players be available EVERYDAY form June 15^th through August 2^nd. District teams will practice or play almost every day during that time. Team managers will announce team rosters on June 15th.
